Dear Library Supporter:
The New Year is underway, and I hope you have made a resolution to enjoy the library even more this year. It will be hard to top the exciting activities we enjoyed over the holidays, but just wait, great things are coming!
New programming ideas this year include “Movie Magic Mondays.” Each Monday a current release feature film is screened while refreshments and conversation bring neighbors together @ your library. Our new Jazz Forum will begin March 1st and continue meeting the first Thursday of each month to share music, history, and build upon the library’s jazz music collection. Everyone is welcome.
Classes in English as a second language will continue as will the Spanish conversation classes. Chess Club will start up again soon and groups like the knitters will meet at the library. We will again be featuring local artists, authors and musicians on special occasions.
Best of all, plans are taking shape for expansion not only of the building, but also of the parking lot. The Oxford area is growing and the library will grow with it; we will better supply the books, music CD’s, audio books, reference materials, programs, and services you have come to know and expect these past 224 years. Come in to see the proposed plans and model on display now.
The Board of Directors of the Oxford Library Company is proud of the director and staff that make the Oxford Public Library one of the busiest and best libraries in Chester County. Thank you for your part in that.
Sincerely,
Ruth P. Holmes, Long Range Planning Committee Board of Trustees, Oxford Library Company

Dear Community Member;
Once again the Oxford Public Library has outdone itself with new programs and expanded information resources. Add to that the possibility of building expansion and you can see what I mean. There are new and exciting things happening at the library such as:
Of course our Story Times continue and are always growing. Our circulation is growing and with our new Collection Development Specialist we are improving our collection particularly in technology, medical, and travel non-fiction materials.
Wireless access became available last fall bringing our computer services on par with any library in the county.
To continue this fine work, the library needs continued support. We appreciate the donations by so many last year and hope for new and continued support of this exciting, growing institution. Please fill out the flap on the pre-addressed envelope and forward a tax deductable donation today.
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Ruth P. Holmes, Annual Appeal Chairperson

The library; where imaginations grow La biblioteca; donde imaginaciones crecen
April 2004 Dear Oxford Area Community Member: At the top of this page is the logo for the Oxford Public Library. It reflects the library’s position in our community during its long history, today, and in the future. At its February meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a 3-year strategic plan for the library entitled “Oxford Public Library: Core of the Community” and asked the planning committee to continue to meet and to write action statements for the plan. All of this is very exciting for the future of the library and helps focus our energies on making it one of the best libraries in the Chester County Library System. Once again, the library’s statistics increased greatly this past year. Borrowers checked out 126,067 items for a 19.5% increase in circulation. Half of those items were children’s materials. Children and their caregivers attended 277 programs; total attendance was 8,144. Adults attended 21 programs with total attendance of 519. In addition, 716 students attended 78 ESL (English As A Second Language) classes and received instruction in the E-Plaza computer lab under the auspices of La Comunidad Hispana. At the same time the library was providing its many services and the public was responding with increased use of these services, libraries throughout the state were threatened with a huge decrease in State Aid. Oxford library’s cut is a decrease of 37% from the 2003 State Aid allocation, a 14% decrease in revenues for our operating budget. [Contact your legislature by clicking here] The Oxford Public Library’s annual fundraiser is a part of the operating budget. It is essential for the day-to-day operation of the library, paying for materials, programs, utilities, maintenance, and staff. This money keeps the doors of the library open to people like yourself who have come to expect and appreciate the services it provides. You can help with a contribution of any size—all are tax deductible. A contribution now is a practical way for you to make a positive impact on your community. Please mail or bring your tax deductible contribution to the Oxford Public Library, 48 South Second Street, Oxford, PA 19363. Thank you for your support. |
